Mission:
MinerTV strives to bring quality information and entertainment to the S&T community in media made for and by students, faculty, and staff of Missouri S&T.
History of MinerTV:
MinerTV was created as an idea in late 2007, when a rag-tag group of S&T students decided that they wanted to create content for the launch of MinerNet (S&T’s small network of TVs set up in various campus locations). The idea was to create short videos showcasing news, S&T special events, campus life, and funny shorts all made for and by the students of Missouri S&T. The original founders of the, organization JP Maxwell, Mitch Niefhoff, and Wes Chappel, formed a group and started shooting videos that same year. However when Wes Chappel transferred schools, the strides the group had made went with him.
JP Maxwell and Mitch Niefhoff regrouped and pressed on with part of MinerTV’s mission. They produced short news segments in the basement of the library that were aired on YouTube and Facebook. Still, they could not forget the original goal of MinerTV. Finally, in the summer of 2009 the group caught a break. MinerTV received sponsorship from Dr. Richard Hall with the Center for Technology Enhanced Learning (CTEL). Dr. Hall committed lab space to create a studio fully furnished with a green screen, top-notch editing computer, and sophisticated sound and video equipment. He also helped found our website minertv.org. MinerTV’s new home was completed in the Fall of 2009 and with it came new life in the organization.
